Uneven rib

Gryid Tank

This is the Gyrid Tank from the Viking Knits Collection Book One by Elsebeth Lavold using Silky Wool in color 051 Eggshell. I used size 6 KnitPicks Options Needles. I made the second size up (37 3/4 bust) and used 4 hanks (with a little left over). The good news is I bought 8, so I have enough to make another tank. Instead of having two white tanks I'm going to dye the second half (not sure what color yet). Anyway - here it is:

Tilia and Crochet Hat

Here are my latest completions.

About the sweater:
Pattern: Tilia from Enchanted Garden by Elsebeth Lavold
Yarn: Silky Wool (used 6 hanks with small bits of leftovers from several of them)
Needles: KnitPicks option - Love these needles!


About the hat:
Pattern: crochet hat purchased at Loopville (sorry - don't know who made it)
Yarn: mercinized cotton (used about 1.5 hanks)
Hook: size H Suzan Bates

Sherpa Hat

I made this hat from some wool I bought online from Topsy Farms. When I went to look for the link I found a new website. I can't even see that they still sell yarn. I'm guessing that they probably do. I bought their 3-ply and used about 1 hank (160 yards). I could've used less, but I really don't remember - it's been a long time since I knit this hat up. I sort of made up the pattern using "Cover Your Ears" from Interweave knits as my inspiration and guidance. The border and ear flaps are done in seed stitch and the upper hat is stockinette stitch. I love wearing this hat. It's a little scratchy, but super warm. You can't see it in this picture, but at the end of the ear flaps I've got about 7" of crochet chain and then a small pom-pom at the end.

Teacup pincushion

I watch Martha Stewart regularly. For those of you who have something negative to say - I would like to remind you of what your mother might say. "If you can't say anything nice, then shut the hell up." I think Martha catches a lot of crap from people and it's unecesary. Ok, off my soap box. I made this from some sweaters that I bought at Goodwill. I didn't do it exactly as the directions say to - mostly, I changed the bottom (the saucer).

Malabrigo "My So Called Scarf"

This is in progress, but I had to share. I think this is turning out sooo nice. It's a slow pattern to knit - I can't watch TV actively and knit.

Malabrigo Lacy Prairie Shawl

This shawl was knit out of my new favorite yarn... Malabrigo. Oh my - it's sooo yummy soft. A little pricey, but in my opinion worth it. I can't imagine having a sweater out of this yarn - I bet it would be super nice. I've worn the shawl around the house and in this picture the shawl has not been blocked. Also keep in mind that the colors are a little off because of the flash. In real life it's a navy blue (not too dark) and a nice burnt orange with the colors fading nicely into one another. The pattern is from Folk Shawls - the Lacy Prairie Shawl.

Curly Toe Stocking

Pattern by my friend Patricia (I'm trying to convince her to sell it) and yarn by Gjestral Naturgarn (bought from Elann.com over a year ago). Knit on size 13 needles.

Shoalwater Shawl

I love the way this shawl turned out. It was a gift for my mother for her birthday and she loves it too. I wish I had remembered to take my camera so I would have a picture of her wearing it, but I forgot. Maybe I can get one next time I see her and update the post.

Anyway.... I used the Shoalwater Shawl pattern from Fiber Trends written by Evelyn Clark (once again - I LOVE her pattern!). I used KnitPicks Memories yarn in Yukon and I was suprised and how closley the colors resembled the pattern! I used my KnitPicks Options needles in size 7. The only modification I did to the pattern was that I did not do the I-Cord edge for the top. I did the picot bind off - and fell in love! I can't wait to use that bind-off again.

Delilah

I'm gobsmacked! My friends Bryan and Patricia surprised me with a baby sheep today for my birthday. Gobsmacked I tell you! I came home from fishing w/ my hubbie and my dad and found a book on raising sheep. What the... I thought. Then I looked out into the field and there she was with a purple bow tied around her neck. What a little angel she is. I promise there will be more posts soon (probably all on my other blog Straight Up Acres) with more pictures.

Flower Basket Lace Shawl

Whew - my first lace project is finished! I LOVE this shawl. The pattern was great, it was fun to knit and very exciting to watch it transform (especially after blocking). I highly reccomend this pattern. I did the Flower Basket Lace Shawl from Fiber Trends in Knit Picks Color Your Own fingering weight yarn with I dyed with Rit Dye colors pink and brown.

Chair!!!

HOLY CRAP - can you believe how freaking awesome this chair looks??

If you're reading this you may or may not know me, but chances are if you know me - you know the story of this chair, but just in case, here's a brief summation of the events.

Aaron & I adopted Sam, an Irish Wolfhound (very sweet dog)
Sam ate the chair - no kidding, huge gaping hole in it - there's a picture below, but the picture does not do that hole justice. I cried and screamed and cussed.

Then, I called my friend Brooke. Now, Brooke is an extremely talented seamstress (to be fair - I don't think seamstress is the best title for what she does - she can design and sew just about anything - she's amazing) and I thought she might be able to tell me if it was possible for me to fix this. She says she'll do it for me. What? Yep, she'll do it for me. One problem - she lives about 6 hours away from me. Hmmm.... I offer to drive the chair to her house. She says no - we'll meet halfway. Then... the most amazing thing happened. She tells a coworker the story and it just so happens that her boyfriend is taking some intense training where I live and drives back and forth every couple of weeks or so. Ok, so two days (yes, two days) after the dog ate the chair, I drive the chair to this generous man's house for him to drive over to my friend Brooke's house. Well, last night - the generous man drove it back and delivered it to my front door! Now, tell me that just didn't work out about as perfect as could be. All I had to do was pick out and buy the fabric (and I must say - now that I see the finished product, I think I did a fine job).

But, without a doubt, the superstar of this story is Brooke. She does do custom work, so if you're interested in hiring her, post a comment and I'll get you in touch with her.

So... without further ado, here's the transformation of the chair.

Swiss Socks

I don't remember where I got this yarn, but these socks remind me of Switzerland. They are warm and cozy - my favorite pair so far!

Baby Vol

This is for a friend of mine who has a shower coming up. I used Excel to chart out the "T" on the hat for the University of Tennessee Vols. To do this, change the row height to 10 and the column width to 1.5 and then fill the cells with color as needed. I used Ann Budd's hat pattern from "The Knitters Handy Book of Patterns" and I used the Class Cashmere Bootees from "Simple Knits for Cherished Babies" by Erika Knight (I love, love, love all of her books!). I plan on making something similar for the other people I know who are preggers (whew - and there are quite a few!).

Yummy Shrug

I made this using KnitPicks Andean Treasure in Lagoon. I love, love, love this yarn! It knits up very pretty and feels soooo yummy and for a pretty incredible price too!

I sort of used the free "Staff Shrugs" knitting pattern from Interweave Knits adjusting it for my guage and for a very simple stockinette stitch pattern with a 4 stitch border in seed stitch.

Three Strikes You're Out Socks

I call them that because it took me three tries to make these socks and if I had to pull them out one more time - I was going to give away the yarn. :-P
